Smarter Grid Solutions is at the forefront of smart grid technology. We enable power companies and utilities to increase their existing grid capacity in order to connect more renewable energy and respond to the global rise in demand for electricity. This is more affordable and sustainable than building new grid infrastructure.

Alternatives to grid upgrades

Power companies and utilities are under increasing regulatory pressure to find cost-effective alternatives to expensive grid upgrades, and maintain secure and sustainable energy supplies in the face of changing electricity supply and demand patterns. We understand these challenges and can help address them.

Our patented and proven technology increases existing grid capacity, enabling timely connection for new loads and generators, managing complex and bi-directional power flows or maintaining statutory voltage limits.

Renewable connections

Our products help power companies accelerate the move towards large-scale use of renewables at a fraction of the cost - simply by optimising use of the existing grid.

They also allow much faster and cost-effective grid connections for low carbon technologies such as renewable generators.

A project in Orkney allowed Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution to connect >20MW of additional wind generation to an 'at capacity' network for a cost of only £500K, saving an estimated £30m in capital grid upgrades.

Visible, controllable grids

Electricity grids typically operate well below their potential capacity because traditional grid planning reserves capacity for low probability and infrequent events.

Our Active Network Management technology uses sophisticated planning and monitoring of the grid in real time to identify any latent capacity. This can create up to two or three times more capacity in the existing grid.

As a result, power companies and utilities can resolve grid constraints and accommodate large amounts of renewable energy resources using existing infrastructure, rather than relying on expensive grid upgrades.
