Our Company

Smarter Grid Solutions is a pioneering software technology company working at the intersection of clean energy, advanced digital technology, and power systems.  We are a team of electrical engineers, software developers, and analytics & consulting experts working on the transformation of tomorrow’s electric grid – to become cleaner, more efficient, and more sustainable.

We spearheaded the introduction of Active Network Management in the UK, and we are now a world-leading provider of Distributed Energy Resource (DER) Management Systems (DERMS) software to electrical utilities across the UK, Europe and North America.  We have a customer base that includes major utilities, and we manage a portfolio of over 400 megawatts of renewable generation - from wind turbines and solar systems to battery energy storage and electric vehicles.

We are looking for a diligent and creative Lead UX Designer to help in our mission to transform today’s energy systems!

The role

As Lead UX Designer, you will play an instrumental role spearheading UX-centred product development efforts that create frictionless customer focused user experiences and the underlying user interface designs that enable them. As our first dedicated UX/UI role, you will have an outsized impact on shaping the UX/UI capabilities within the organization. You will work closely with the product team, external clients, and internal software teams to bring to life appealing, consistent, and functional designs for multiple product verticals built on top of modern web-based applications.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about resolving user pain points through great design.  You will create and prioritise both UX and UI initiatives to incrementally and systematically support the shift to increasingly product-led and UX focused technology development. You will have a strong customer service ethos, a great work ethic, and are professional, organised, effective and efficient in the way that you work. You will have excellent organisational skills and the ability to clearly communicate designs, processes, ideas, and solutions to internal teams and external clients with diverse backgrounds.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop and use a wide range of UX and UI experience in an exciting organisation, which operates in the UK (Glasgow) and in the US.   You will be part of an exciting, friendly, clever and highly committed team building and delivering critically needed de-carbonisation technology.

You will be involved in, but not limited to, the following

  • Working directly with the product team on the development of UX/UI artefacts
  • Working directly with multiple software development teams to ensure that the UI under development is consistent, intuitive, user-focused, and frictionless

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Over 5 years of UX design experience on complex B2B web applications with at least 2 years in a lead role
  • Expertise in standard UX software such as UXPin, Balsamiq, InVision, or similar
  • Extensive experience in both UX and UI design best practices
  • Basic experience in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript is highly desirable

As the UX Lead, you will be spearheading our UX and UI efforts in a growing Product Management team, and as such, we are looking for you to bring both UX proficiency as well as UI capabilities. You will be complemented by a multi-disciplinary Product team with strong competencies in both software product management and the energy industry.
