Alan is an Electrical Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in advisory, business development, general management and corporate development within the energy and technology sectors with blue chip organizations such as PwC and QinetiQ.  He joined Smarter Grid Solutions as the Founding Managing Director, having met the other founders through his role as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Strathclyde.  He now has board responsibility for the commercial and sales functions, managing teams and partners globally to drive the growth of the business.  Alan also serves as project director on a number Smarter Grid Solutions’ largest DERMS projects including SP Energy Networks, UK Power Networks, EWE Netz and Stedin.  Alan has a Masters degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering with Business Management from the University of Strathclyde.

Stuart is a Chartered Accountant with over 10 years of experience in technology businesses from time with Texas Instruments and involvement in several growth businesses.  Over that period he has held operational finance roles as well as leading successful finance raises, acquisitions and business sales.  He was Chief Financial Officer at SGS from 2018-2024 and is now the Chief Operating Officer. 

Euan is a Power Systems Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in industrially focused R&D and product development. With a background in Artificial Intelligence and control systems, Euan has worked internationally for two decades, leading teams on application of advanced digital technologies for the energy sector. Before joining SGS, he designed and deployed one of the first multi-agent systems into the power sector and led research on the use of AI for energy system operation and optimisation. He joined SGS in 2012 as its first dedicated R&D engineer and, since then, has held several roles for the company. He joined the exec team in 2016 as Production Engineering Director and took on the role of CTO in 2020.

Laura Kane is a Chartered Engineer, with a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde. Laura joined the Consultancy team at Smarter Grid Solutions in 2014 working with UK and NA utility customers to deliver some of the first innovation projects in the ANM and DERMS space. Laura has over a decade of experience in delivering innovation and business as usual projects for utilities, public sector organisations, research institutions and private sector in the UK and in North America. Since 2021, Laura has played a significant role in establishing and growing the Product Management team at SGS, expanding into new product verticals and building the strategy and roadmaps for SGS's suite of DERMS products. She joined the Executive Team at Smarter Grid Solutions in 2024. 

Robert is a Power Systems Engineer with over 15 years’ experience in the Smart Grid domain, holding roles that have involved the study, design and delivery of solutions to accelerate the roll-out of distributed energy and support the low-carbon grid transition.  He joined the growing team of consultants at Smarter Grid Solutions in 2011, and now leads both global consultancy delivery and UK sales activities.  He has led ground-breaking innovation projects in the UK and North America, demonstrating the application of novel analytical methods and control solutions across both network planning and network operations.  In leading the team of consultants, he has driven the development of Smarter Grid Solutions’ consultancy services to grid utilities and distributed energy developers/owners, extending the offering of smart grid advisory services and development of in-house tools to deliver advanced network analytics.  He joined the Executive Team at Smarter Grid Solutions in 2023.
