Problem

SP Energy Networks were looking for way to accelerate the connection of renewable and distribution generation projects for a range of network cases and scenarios. This included congestion constraints on the transmission network which distribution connected generation could feed under outage scenarios.

Solution

SP Energy Networks trialled Strata Grid utilising real-time curtailment of distribution connected DER for both transmission and distribution constraints and managing boundary flows.

Result

Over 150 MW of new renewable and distributed generation was connected to the grid in the ARC project area that would not have connected otherwise due to the cost or the delay of reinforcement. The Strata Grid system transitioned from trial into an operational system at the end of the project.
