The way energy has flowed changed with the clean energy revolution, and now Distributed Network Operators (DNOs) are seeking to transition to Distributed System Operators (DSOs) to ensure customer needs are met, and that reliability is maintained, while reducing the reliance on fossil fuels and decarbonising the electricity system at the least possible cost to customers. UKPN needed a way to move available capacity around the distribution system to where it was most needed, acting either through scheduled or real-time adjustments. Such as moving untapped charging energy from residential areas to cities and factories during the day.
