UK Power Networks (Low Carbon London)

Low Carbon London sought to demonstrate a wide number of use cases associated with the low carbon transition of major urban centres.  As load grows in city centres it can be difficult and expensive perform grid upgrades.

Confidential Chemical Company

All batteries have different chemical parts which place operational restrictions on that type of battery for certain applications. To commercially ‘firm up’ renewable output to participate in the energy market or ancillary services market, the flow battery and flow battery / Lithium-ion battery combination required to be coordinated with the output of the wind farm and the local network hosting capacity limitations.

H2020 (Optimised)

As part of the EU-funded Horizon 2020 project, Laing O’Rourke required a real-time software platform to be integrated into their smart factory in order to visualize live and historic power consumption and improve energy efficiency.

NREL (INTEGRATE)

Connecting high penetrations of DER requires grid hosting capacity to be managed to ensure that network reliability is not impacted. NREL wanted to investigate the feasibility of hosting >50% DER penetration levels at home, community and grid levels.

Southern California Edison (IGP)

Southern California Edison (SCE) identified the need to be able to monitor and control DER at scale across its network as part of its Grid Modernization objectives. It also recognised that DERMS required many different capabilities, not all available in a single solution. SCE designed a reference architecture that they required to demonstrate, through the Integrated Grid Project, prior to future investments in DERMS infrastructure.

Tucson Electric Power (RAIN)

In collaboration with EPRI, Tucson Electric Power sought to demonstrate the technologies and processes to handle mass consumer take up of PV and other consumer level DER. The DERMS was required to demonstrate connectivity and control of all consumer types of residential DER (PV, storage, EVs) connected via a range of protocols and standards.

SDG&E (OpenFMB Trial)

San Diego Gas and Electric was investigating different architectures to support their grid modernization plans and sought to investigate the implementation of a Distributed Control Architecture supported by the emerging standard, OpenFMB.

EWE Netz (Active DER Management Trial)

Our customer EWE NETZ has some of the highest penetration levels of renewable generation in Germany. Previous regulation meant that they are responsible for upgrading the network to accommodate and passing on the cost of these upgrades to consumers

Southern California Edison (EASE)

With state mandates for renewables and energy storage, California has experienced an upsurge in the volume of DER connecting to the network. The process for connection, all the way from planning consent to grid connection and being energised, took weeks even for residential scale DER. Southern California Edison wanted to streamline the connection process for millions of DER (e.g. 6GW+ of Solar PV) and onboard the DER for control and optimisation.

SSE Networks (Shetland)

The Shetland Islands are a group of islands off of the north coast of the UK. They are not connected to the main grid and therefore they run as a microgrid.  SSEN required to replace the existing diesel power station and wanted to displace as much fossil fuel generation as possible while continuing to meet UK Security and Quality of Supply Standards.

SSE Networks (Orkney)

SSEN required major grid upgrades (~£30m) to connect new DER customers.  The DER fed multiple simultaneous constraints across the 11 kV and 33 kV netw
